Peer mentors are upper semester students who volunteer and support a group of new students by providing guidance, support and resources. They maintain regular, ongoing communication with new students, and provide access and referrals to appropriate services and resources for academic and personal success. A peer mentor will spend approximately three to five hours per week on mentoring related activities.

Celebration event- Mentors are invited to attend a celebration event at the end of the semester. 

 

Recognition- Each semester mentors will receive a "Recognition of Participation" for their commitment and dedication.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES 

Training requirements: 

  • Complete the virtual peer mentor training (step 1) followed by the in-person training at Newnham Campus held on September 2 (step 2). 

  • Complete the Consent@Seneca training module.  This module aims to equip and empower students. You will learn about sexual violence and how to provide support to someone who has been affected by sexual violence.

  • Participate in additional training held throughout the semester 

 Serve as a resource and support: 

  • Support and be accessible to a minimum of 10 students  

  • Attend weekly in-person/virtual meetings with students (1:1 or in groups) 

  • Provide accurate referrals and information to students  

  • Attend Seneca programming with students
